Soothing sound vibrations can touch our deepest core
sending waves of harmony and creating a fine attunement
with our inner being.
Singing Bowls have historically been made throughout Asia
and are traditionally used worldwide
for meditation practices, healing practices, music,
stress reduction, chakra balancing, and deep relaxation.
They are often found in temples, monasteries, and on Buddhist altars.
The rim of the bowl is lightly struck and stroked with a mallet,
thus producing a vibration which results in a powerful “singing” hum
of rich harmonics and blended overtones.
The Singing Bowl pictured above
has a special place in my home and studio.
Its etheric vibration creates a veil of peace and harmony,
saturating your inner being and your outer environment.
I wanted to capture the essence
of this bowl’s mystic beauty in a portrait.
So I created a setting of deep shadows
with an ambiance of light,
and nestled the bowl in soft folds
of translucent silk.
The hint of red on the mallet plays strikingly
against the cool muted tones of the metal
and the darkness of the background,
Also notice how the decorative script flows beautifully
with the patterns in the folds of silk.
All of these elements combine to create a visual harmony
very much in tune with the harmonic sound vibrations
of this singing bowl.
I will use oil on linen to capture the depth and translucency
of the rich color palette in the composition.
No doubt the final painting will suffuse its environment
with peace, beauty, and harmony.
When I begin working on this painting
I will post frequent updates of the work in progress.
