So I’m back in the studio after a much needed break
and already planning future projects.
Several current works in progress need to be finished
before undertaking anything new,
however i can’t help but see new possibilities
all around in everyday life.
I’m really excited about the dragonfly pictured above.
This is an image I took of a friend’s Tiffany lamp.
Often the best composition consists of
a cropped portion of a larger image.
In this case the effect is one of
somewhat abstract imagery,
There is a spark of life in the actual lighted lamp,
but the spirit of that light is subdued
in the photographic image.
Oil painting is a perfect medium
to re-capture the spirit of light,
life, and luminescence.
To accomplish this task, i will use oil paints
on either a linen covered panel or a copper plate.
The inner gold border will be 24k gold leaf
set against the black outer border,
creating a contrast of textures and values.
The size will be small and intimate
– about 8 inches.
I’m here writing this at 4 a.m.,
thinking “so much to do – so little time”,
and anticipating the day when i bring
the spirit of this dragonfly to life.
