The swan, a traditional symbol of beauty and grace,
often appears in world mythology
and has abundant meanings in spiritual contexts.
It is also used in many art forms to represent
spiritual discrimination and enlightenment.
One myth says that the Heavenly Swan
eats pearls and has the discriminative ability
to separate milk from water.
The spiritual title Paramahansa which means
”supreme swan” in Sanskrit is bestowed only on
some few enlightened incarnate souls
of the very highest spiritual attainment.
Also “Han sa” has the Sanskrit meaning of
”I am He”
Above is an image of a recent oil painting called ‘Hansa’.
The swan is a very soothing subject to paint
and every few years i enjoy creating a new one.
Hansa is 8 by 10 inches on wood panel
with gold leaf trim.
